What is Garment Dye?
Garment dye is a special way of coloring clothing: first the garment is made, and then it is dyed.
This allows the cotton to absorb the dye naturally, creating shades, tones, and textures that are impossible to replicate.
The result is garments with a lived-in, authentic look and plenty of personality.
At Trendsplant, we use this technique because every color tells a story and every piece becomes unique.
How it’s different
Piece Dyeing:
The fabric is dyed before sewing the garment. Everything ends up more uniform, more “predictable.”
Garment Dyeing:
The garment is dyed once it’s already made. Seams, fibers, and every detail react differently, creating unique finishes.
No two pieces are ever the same.
Variations within Garment Dye
Depending on the pigment or finish, the results change:
Pigment Dye:
That vintage, washed-out effect that makes it feel like your favorite from day one.
Reactive Dye:
intense, solid colors made to last.
Sulphur Dye:
ideal for blacks and deep tones, with a worn-in look.
Sub-techniques:
Overdye (double dyeing), sunwashed or fade-out (that summery, sun-faded vibe), enzyme or stone washes for extra texture, and Ecodye, which uses nebulization to reduce water consumption.
