What is 1% For the Planet?

Everything we do affects people, our surrounding environment, and the planet. According to the UN, the textile industry produces 20% of the world's wastewater and 10% of global carbon emissions.

Everything we do affects people, our surrounding environment, and the planet. According to the UN, the textile industry produces 20% of the world's wastewater and 10% of global carbon emissions.

As part of that sector, those figures have worried us for a long time and have inspired us to become a company committed to the quality of garments, concerned about the manufacturing process and the pollution it generates.

We want to join forces with people concerned about other people and the planet. Today we take another step along this path. What is “1% for the planet” and why have we joined it?

1% for the planet is an international organization to which its members contribute at least 1% of their annual turnover (not profit, an important clarification). That percentage is dedicated to actions improving our surroundings and making the planet a better place for all. The organization continuously builds an alliance of companies committed to one clear objective: we have only one planet Earth and no other options, we must improve its health, care for it and preserve it for future generations. And as a company committed to sustainability and concerned about our surroundings, we had to get involved in this action.

We dedicate 1% of our annual turnover to an activity that has a positive impact on the planet, with the important clarification we made when we learned about this movement: why do members donate 1% of turnover, not profit?

A company's profits can be altered in any number of ways to pay less tax. Sometimes very low profits, and even losses can be reported.

This is the reality in the case of many companies and we believe everyone should know it: costs are generated by making bulk purchases at the end of the year; disproportionate salaries and stratospheric bonuses are paid. So, for the calculation to be fairer, it must be based on turnover.

The same way with Wild Tomorrow Fund

We end this text with another key announcement: our 1% contribution will go to the Wild Tomorrow Fund. In the next installment we will tell you how we came across the Fund: sometimes you are just fated to meet the right people along the way. The Fund is committed to the protection of endangered species and the habitats on which they depend, working mainly on the ground in Africa.

Would you like to join 1% for the Planet as an individual? This global organization also has room for individuals. Anyone can donate 1% of their salary to this cause.

Every action, no matter how small, helps to improve the environment that gives us life.
